3rd Annual LaSalle "Legends" Classic preview


This year marks the third season that LaSalle will honor two "Legends" into their stadium as they will place two life-size banners of Mark Arlinghaus '91, LaSalle first state individual champion i(n any sport) who captured the state crown in the pole vault.  DeVier Posey '08, led the "Big Red Express" to a State team runners-up finish in the 2008 State Championship. DeVier captured the individual 400m dash title in a time of 47.41, in addition to placing in the 100 and 200m dash. His 400m dash state meet performance is the second fastest time in Cincinnati history. On his way to the state championship, DeVier became the first athlete in Cincinnati history to win all 3 sprint events (100, 200, 400m dash) in the boys Div.1 Regional Championships. He would also be the only athlete in '08 to advance to the finals in the boys Div.1 100, 200, and 400m dash.   

This year's meet will bring plenty of competition to Lancer Stadium both individually and team wise.  

In the girls division, State XC Champion Claudia Saunders a Stanford signee, will lead the Princeton Vikings program into the 2012 season. 2012 State Indoor 800m Champion Danielle Pfiefer will lead a talent laden McAuley program into Lancer Stadium on Saturday. The Mohawks are the defending GGCL, and District Champions. The team title will feature perennial powerhouse Mason and McAuley.  Coach Tony Affatato leads his  Mason Comets into Lancer Stadium for the first time. A City and State perennail powerhouse Mason (10 time District Champions, 9 time Regional Champions) return their entire 3200m relay.  The first event of the day could be the best event of the day as both McAuley and Mason are the elite of the state in this event this spring.

In the boys division, Junior Jaleel Hytchye 3 time All-State finalists and State Champion, along with teammates All-State seniors Devon Stegall and Antonio Nelson, in addition to,  District Champions sophomore Tim Bell (HJ) and senior Linden Ayoki (discus) will lead the "Big Red Express" against a field of great athletes and teams. Vince Turnage will lead the Mt.Healthy Owls (last year's District runners-up), into the 2012 season. Coach Chip Dobson is again loaded at Mason as he returns his entire 400 and 800 meter relay squads, along with up and coming super sophomore Alex Notten who has already posted a 4:23 1600m run performance. Mason seems to be the team to beat going into Saturday's event. 

This meet is sure to bring some great races and field competitlon and excitement to Cincinnati high school track this week.  The 3200m relay is scheduled to kick off competition at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 24.
